Of course not. Instagram has basically turned into a marketplace, and on top of that, it’s a bad copy of TikTok. It'll end up like Facebook did when all the influencers can’t sell their discount codes anymore. On Substack, though, you can build a community that’s genuinely interested in what you’re doing. Maybe this is just my initial excitement talking, but so far, I haven’t seen any engagement-bait comments or posts like on Instagram, especially on Threads. (Okay, I did report a fake Keanu Reeves account here and was a bit shocked at how many people didn’t realize it was fake.) Even though Substack (for now) doesn’t even have a category for photography, I think it could be the future for photographers who are more interested in building a community and sharing their work than chasing thousands of followers and sponsorships. I’m having fun here, at least, and I’m curious to see where this goes.
